Groups Make Final Push on California Privacy Regulations

While applauding the California Attorney General for clarifying and strengthening the proposed regulations under the California Consumer Privacy Act, Consumer Federation of America and other groups said further revisions are needed to prevent service providers from building comprehensive consumer profiles, require transparency for data brokers, and require “do not track” signals to be recognized as requests not to sell consumers’ data. The groups also urged businesses’ request to postpone the date for full enforcement because of the COVID-19 pandemic to be rejected.
