Consumer Advocates Sent a Letter to the Texas Department of Insurance Criticizing Its Failure to Provide Auto Insurance Premium Relief for Consumers

The consumer advocates Consumer Federation of America, Center for Economic Justice, TexPIRG, Texas Appleseed, and Texas Watch sent a letter to the Texas Department of Insurance criticizing the Department for its misleading and erroneous information and for failing to provide auto insurance premium relief for consumers.

This letter comes after months of discussions between the Department and consumer groups, and a large decline in auto crashes and claims due to the pandemic, which resulted in excessive insurance rates. Yet, unlike some other states, Texas has taken no action to require refunds so that these rates are not excessive.
