CFA submitted the following letter in response to the Biden Administration’s request for information in support of plans to announce a national strategy to end hunger and reduce diet-related diseases and the disparities surrounding them at the upcoming White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health. The letter commends the Administration for recognizing the need for a national strategy to confront the obesity epidemic and other longstanding problems caused by the food system. The letter points out that the food system touches on nearly every facet of environmental, economic, and social policy, and that responsibility for regulating the food system falls across many different federal agencies, and so a comprehensive strategy is essential. The letter cites examples in which policy reforms can better enable consumers to make healthier choices that are also better for workers, the environment, family farmers and their surrounding communities, and public health.
