CFA Advocates for Legislation Based on the Premise of Americans’ Inherent Right to Privacy

In a letter to Senators Thune and Nelson, CFA laments the exclusion of consumer voices from the Senate Committee on Commerce hearing on Examining Safeguards for Consumer Data Privacy. Consumers’ perspectives are essential to having an informed discussions of those issues, and CFA’s view is that comprehensive federal legislation on privacy should only be undertaken if it is based on the premise that Americans have an inherent right to privacy and if it will require respect for that right to be integral to the development of commercial products and practices.
