CFA Statement in Response to Nomination of Stuart Levenbach as Director of CFPB

Washington, D.C. — The Consumer Federation of America released the following statement in response to the nomination of Stuart Levenbach to become the Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

“The motive for this nomination is not to resume the CFPB’s Congressionally-mandated work to protect people from financial fraud,” said Adam Rust, Director of Financial Services for the Consumer Federation of America, “but instead to allow Russell Vought more time to complete his illegal plan to dismantle the agency.”

“Congress should stand up against this disingenuous nomination. It cannot continue to allow the Administration to ignore the Consumer Financial Protection Act and the CFPB’s clear authority.”
