CFA Urges State Insurance Commissioners to Investigate Companies’ Use of Homeownership in Auto Insurance Pricing

In a letter to state insurance commissioners, CFA is urging each to investigate insurance companies’ use of homeownership as an auto rating factor in their state. As a CFA report highlights, renters are more likely to have low or moderate incomes and thus already more likely to struggle with the cost of state mandated auto insurance coverage.  Making auto insurance less affordable through this renter’s penalty worsens the situation and should be a critical concern to insurance commissioners across the country.
