CFA Offers Comments on CPSC Priorities for FY 2017 and 2018

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has been working hard to fulfill its mission to protect the public from unreasonable risks of injury or death associated with the use of consumer products. CFA believes that the implementation of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act has been and should continue to be of the highest priority for the CPSC. Other issues to prioritize include emerging hazards such as hoverboards and crumb rubber, and long standing hazards such as window coverings, flame retardants in consumer products, off-highway vehicles, furniture tip-overs, button cell batteries, laundry packets, adult bed rails, baby bumpers, infant suffocation, upholstered furniture, and low-income child safety. In terms of enforcement, the CPSC should prioritize recall effectiveness, import surveillance, and civil & criminal penalties.
