Consumer and Privacy Groups File Complaint with FTC Regarding Facebook Facial Recognition Practices

A coalition of consumer and privacy groups have filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regarding potential privacy violations via facial recognition technology deployed by Facebook. The complaint calls for the FTC to investigate Facebook, enjoin the deployment of additional facial recognition techniques as a violation of the 2011 Consent Order, and require Facebook to modify its biometric data practices to protect the privacy of Facebook users and non-users.
