CFA Joins Consumer Groups Calling for an Overdue Rulemaking on Automatic Emergency Braking for Heavy Vehicles

CFA and other consumer groups signed onto a letter addressed to the Department of Transportation (DOT) calling for a final rule requiring automatic emergency braking (AEB) on new vehicles weighing greater than 10,000 pounds. The letter highlights the safety benefits of requiring the new braking system on heavy vehicles, including that this regulation will eliminate nearly 20,000 crashes, save over 150 lives, and reduce nearly 9,000 injuries annually. This rule is seven months overdue as Congress mandated this rulemaking be completed by November 2023 in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
