CFA Joins Broad Coalition of Industry, Public Interest Groups Asking USDA to Rethink Secret Self-Determinations on Genetically Engineered Food Crops

CFA joined groups ranging from the National Wildlife Federation to the Consumer Brands Association (formerly GMA) to the Biotechnology Innovation Organization in submitting the following comments on a USDA proposed rule that would allow technology developers to self-determine that new genetically engineered crops meet certain regulatory exemptions and therefore do not need to undergo any further risk analysis before going on the market. The letter requests that the USDA at a minimum require notification when a developer determines that its product should be exempt.
