Robert Herrell is the Executive Director of the Consumer Federation of California. He has been a leader on consumer protection issues in California for almost three decades. He worked in the California Legislature for approximately 15 years, both as a committee consultant and a leading staffer to State Senators and State Assemblymembers on consumer issues such as lemon law, consumer financial privacy rights, dietary supplement reform, data breaches and many other issues. Herrell also served as a Deputy California Insurance Commissioner for almost six years, focusing efforts on expanding policyholder rights and wildfire consumer protections in the insurance marketplace. As head of the Consumer Federation of California, Herrell has worked to create consumer protections in the digital assets/cryptocurrency space, seeks reforms in the foreclosure marketplace to protect consumers, helped create the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation, ended the so-called “death discount” limiting some plaintiff awards if a plaintiff dies during a case, and enhanced privacy protections, among many other projects. Herrell has a BA and MBA from the University of California, Irvine and also studied at Curtin University in Perth, Australia and Universidad Internacional in Cuernavaca, Mexico.
