FDA’s Scott Gottlieb and Former USDA Secretary Dan Glickman Among Leading Experts to Address Conference and Explore Latest Food Policy Proposals, Farm Bill

Washington, D.C. – For the 41st year, the Consumer Federation of America will host the Annual National Food Policy Conference in Washington, DC on March 28 & 29, 2018. The event explores timely issues facing consumers, the food industry and government.

Among the confirmed speakers are Dr. Scott Gottlieb, Commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman, and Dean of the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University, Dariush Mozaffarian. Additional speakers will be added to the program as they are confirmed.

This year’s agenda begins with an exploration of how science influences food policy, including discussions of how the media reports on new scientific research, how top government scientists and regulators communicate, and how companies talk to consumers about new technologies. Other plenary sessions will examine recent Farm Bill proposals, and unpack the implications of proposed food assistance reforms, such as work requirements and USDA’s America’s Harvest Box. Timely topics like animal antibiotic use, the future of the national organic program, clean label initiatives, food safety investigations, the next round of Dietary Guidelines for Americans, and the obstacles facing young farmers will be brought to life in breakout sessions and panels.

For decades, the National Food Policy Conference has been a Washington institution and a unique collaboration between consumer advocates, the food industry and government. The conference is organized by the Consumer Federation of America and is a highly anticipated national gathering for those interested in agriculture, food and nutrition policy.
