The Student Borrower Protection Center led a comment supporting the Department of Education’s Notice of Proposed Rulemaking which would provide student debt relief to over 30 million Americans. The coalition applauded the Department’s approach to provide automatic cancellation and urged it to also eliminate the arbitrary income cap, extend automatic relief to borrowers with loans older than 20/25 years on a rolling basis, provide relief to victims of loan servicer abuse and errors, and to promptly initiate a rulemaking that would support borrowers experiencing hardship.
