Secretary Buttigieg Bans Family Seating Fees

Washington, D.C. – The Consumer Federation of America released the following statement in response to the Biden-Harris Administration proposed new rule that would ban airlines from charging junk fees to seat families together on a flight.

“After repeated admonitions from President Biden and Secretary Buttigieg to stop charging families extra fees to sit together on a plane, some airlines still have not listened,” said Erin Witte, Director of Consumer Protection for Consumer Federation of America. “Today’s rule proposal makes it clear to airlines that free family seating is a basic, essential service for air travel - not another opportunity to nickel and dime passengers.”
