The Consumer Federation of America released the following statement in advance of the February 24th en banc hearing in the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia in National Treasury Employees Union v. Vought

“Acting Director Russell Vought has deliberately attempted to shutter the CFPB through illegal firings, sweeping stop-work orders, and mass layoffs designed to gut the Bureau's staff,” said Adam Rust, director of financial services for the Consumer Federation of America. “We stand with the dedicated CFPB employees. Because of their work over the last decade, the CFPB has implemented essential safeguards designed to protect the financial stability of American households and has saved consumers tens of billions of dollars. The question now is whether the Court will allow this case to proceed, in favor of the rule of law and Congress’s clear mandate, or if one acting director’s discretion can determine the CFPB’s future and its continued ability to ensure fairness in the marketplace.”
