b'2021 ANNUAL REPORTCONFERENCES and PUBLICATIONS Consumer Assembly: One of the most important gatherings of consumer advocates and public policymakers is CFAs annual Consumer Assembly, held on May 4 and 5, 2021. In its 55th year, CFA held Consumer Assembly as a virtual conference for the second year in a row as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The virtual conference was attended by 210 persons on day one and 186 persons on day two, who heard from speakers including the FTCs Rebecca Kelly Slaughter, Author Heather McGhee, Senator Ed Markey and Congresswoman Grace Meng. The conference sessions addressed issues related to current and emerging consumer and policy concerns such as discrimination in and unfair practices in tracking consumer data, COVID-19s disparate impact on housing security, protecting student borrowers from abuses in the system, and regulators ability to keep up with fintech and investors. Annual Meeting: At a virtual meeting on May 13, representatives from member groups conducted the business of the Federation, including the election of Board members. Consumer Champion Awards: On October 28 , 130 people watched CFAs first-ever virtual Consumer Champion Awards event honoring five exceptional leaders who have had a profound impact on public policy and consumer protection. The awards were given to Kids in Dangers Nancy Cowles, presented by Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, HousingNOLAs Andreanecia Morris, presented by National Urban League President Marc Morial, NCLCs Will Ogburn, presented by Senator Elizabeth Warren, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, presented by Economic Policy Institute Senior Fellow Terri Gerstein and Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey presented by Senator Ed Markey.High-Cost Lending Summit: On January 7 and 8, CFA held its 17th Annual High-Cost Lending Summit virtually, when 149 state and local advocates from throughout the country joined to hear a number of panels and speakers on pressing high-cost lending issues. Sessions included a keynote address from Senator Chris Van Hollen, as well as panels on state and local policy updates, recent research in the payday lending sphere, whats next for federal regulation and legislation, and the emerging 2021 ANNUAL REPORT23'
