b'2021 ANNUAL REPORT basis through emails, social media, and website tools, with over 50,000 people receiving several motivational texts every month.In 2021, America Saves also conducted a saver survey to determine the demographic make-up of its savers. The saver survey found: the vast majority of our savers, 81% are women; over 50% of our savers are between 35 and 54 years old; and, our savers represent all races and ethnicities, with groups of color being slightly overrepresented as Black Americans make up a plurality, over 40%, of our savers. 77% of savers are employed on some level and among those there is an almost a perfect 50/50 split between hourly workers versus annual wage earners. Among hourly workers, almost 50% make between $16 and $25 an hour, with the majority making between $16 and $20 an hour. The most common annual wage of our savers is between $50,000 and $75,000 a year, approximately in line with the national median income. Across the board, savers have mixed confidence in their current financial situation: one-third reported feeling bad or somewhat bad about their situation; 43% reported feeling positive or somewhat positive; and 24% were neutral. These feelings actually track our savers credit scores: 33% reported a score below 670; 23% reported scores between 670 and 739; and 44% reported a score of 740 or above.Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, our savers very much reflect the k-shaped recovery happening more broadly across society: 35% of savers reported dipping in to emergency savings and 25% reported taking on more credit card debt; while over half of our savers reported being able to maintain or even increase the amount they have been able to save since the pandemic started. When savers are financially able to save, 70% utilize automatic saving; splitting deposits and automatic transfers by financial institutions are the most common automatic saving methods. Finally, our savers value the support, resources, and values of America Saves. 72% of Ssvers find America Saves helpful and 68% say the program reminds them to build wealth over time. America Saves Week 2021 hosted the highest number of organizations ever in its 14-year history and continued to successfully engage people around setting up or increasing their savings. More than 1,300 organizations, financial institutions, government agencies and businsesses reached millions of individuals encouraging saving and particularly automatic saving.
