b'Consumer Federation of AmericaJanuary 2022 Dear CFA Member,Another year under pandemic conditions and, thanks to the support of our members, CFAs 53rd year continued our successful advocacy on behalf of the American consumer. The good news is that weve managed to keep up our advocacy, retain staff cohesiveness, maintain our financial status, and continue to inform, educate, and improve consumer protections. In addition, 2021 saw the development of a strategic plan thanks to the efforts of key staff and board members. As we entered the second year of the pandemic, we continued our efforts to bring together policy makers and thought leaders who are responsible for developing and implementing Americas consumer protections. We held our first-ever virtual Consumer Champion Awards event, and virtually conducted our highly anticipated Consumer Assembly, Annual High-Cost Lending Summit, and our Food Policy and Financial Services Conferences. These events drew hundreds of consumer advocates and notable policy leaders, allowing us to stay front and center on pressing issues impacting consumers. These efforts allowed us to connect with you, our amazing members, and maintain our relationships with public policy leaders, members of Congress, and regulators. Some of Americas changemakers who joined CFA were Senators Warren, Markey, and Van Hollen; Representatives Waters, Schakowsky, Adams and Meng; Attorneys General Keith Ellison and Maura Healey; Acting Comptroller of the Currency Michael Hsu, CFPB Director Rohit Chopra, FHFA Acting Director Sandra Thompson, and FTCs Rebecca Kelly Slaughter. Our initiative, America Saves, celebrated its 20th anniversary with a virtual event that highlighted several important accomplishments. These included convincing financial institutions to offer no fee saving accounts, establishing local campaigns to foster a culture of saving, and organizing thousands of partner organizations to amplify our message on saving, reducing debt, and building wealth for low-to-moderate income earners. These efforts have encouraged millions of people to deposit and save billions of dollars Our continued commitment to highlighting and eliminating marketplace discrimination carries on as an overarching aspect of our work. Weve focused on ferreting out injustice and the tragic economic consequences of racism. Were committed to exposing discriminatory practices and ensuring that policymakers and corporations are held accountable for the discrimination that unfairly burdens so many consumers. The tens of millions of Americans represented by our members should expect no less from the Consumer Federation of America. Again, we extend a special thank you to our membersyou are the backbone of the Consumer Federation of America! This report highlights some of CFAs accomplishments by our truly remarkable staff and in which many of you played an important role. With your support, CFAs 53rd year was a success. Sincerely, Jack GillisExecutive Director and CEO1620 Eye Street, NW, Suite 200Washington, DC 20006(202) 387-6121CFA@ConsumerFed.orgConsumerFed.org'
