b'2021 ANNUAL REPORTLife Insurance, Annuities, and Homeowners Insurance: CFA worked with other consumer advocates in California and other states in support of life insurance reform. We urged the California Insurance Department to require more transparency and competition in insurance markets, and started expanding our education and outreach on life insurance and annuities to consumers.Additionally, CFA conducted research on climate change and how it is increasing risks and homeowners insurance costs, as hurricanes, wildfires, and floods become more intense, and other extreme weather events occur more often. CFA led other consumer advocates in sending comments to the Federal Insurance Office urging that insurers stop underwriting fossil fuel projects that increase greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to climate change, thereby raising homeowners premiums. We also conducted research on the effects of climate change and plan to expand our work on this issue as climate changes effects grow. CFAs insurance team also worked with the California Insurance Department to ensure that homeowners have access to affordable insurance regarding wildfires. CAMPAIGNS TO INCREASE PERSONAL SAVINGSIn 2021, the America Saves initiative celebrated its 20th anniversary with a virtual celebration attended by almost 300 viewers. To uphold its strategic pillar of programmatic excellence, America Saves also launched new websites and built a new database in 2021. The America Saves team, led by Kia McCallister-Young, developed a three-year strategic plan and executed a corresponding roadmap for execution in 2021 and 2022. One intentional strategic change for the campaign is the new guidepost: America Saves defines a good Saver as an informed and empowered consumer. Wealth-Building for Lower-Income Households:America Saves engaged 21,113 savers to save $62,200,123.79 in 2021. America Saves reached these individuals through 29 Local Campaigns, 60 Embeddable Pledges, nine communities using the America Saves for Young Workers program, six Split to Save Program employers, Military Saves, and individual visitors to the America Saves website. America Saves continued its regular support for wealth building by providing over 6,000 organizations with partner resource packets to aid in their leadership and promotion of saving in their communities.
