As a result of our work, California is requiring insurers to give back additional premium refunds for all policyholders.Finally, CFAs insurance team is working on two major reports using the premium data purchases from Quadrant: a national report on how the use of credit scores leads to higher costs for safe drivers, including low-income drivers, and a national report on racial discrimination in auto insurance.Consumer Protection:CFA conducted its annual Consumer Complaint Survey and issued a report highlighting the most common, newest, and worst complaints made to state and local consumer protection agencies and the assistance they provided to the public. This years report highlighted the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on consumers and consumer agencies. With assistance from an MIT student, CFA conducted research into how surveillance advertising works and produced a series of fact sheets, a diagram, and infographics to educate consumers and policymakers about the privacy and equity concerns it raises. In addition, as part of a project with Consumer Action to educate Californians about the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), CFA commissioned a survey, the results of which will be released in early 2022, to explore consumers awareness of and experience with exercising certain key rights under that law. Credit Scores: In partnership with VantageScore Solutions, CFA surveyed the nations knowledge of credit scores for the ninth consecutive year and also continued updating an interactive website (CreditScoreQuiz.org) and related brochure. The survey was widely reported on by news media. A special effort was also made to inform consumers on the importance of checking credit scores during the pandemic.
