Pediatricians and Consumer Advocates Ask CPSC for Action on High-Powered Magnet Safety Standards

CFA TC

CFA agrees with the CPSC’s preliminary determination that there is an unreasonable risk of injury associated with children ingesting high powered magnets that are part of magnet sets. The CPSC and pediatricians and pediatric gastroenterologists have documented the serious medical consequences that occur as a result of a child ingesting such high powered magnets. The unique properties of these magnets cause serious life threatening injuries when a child ingests two or more magnets. These injuries are vastly different from and more serious than those that occur from the ingestion of other small parts.
