Consumer Group Letter to Congress Asking for Full Funding of FDA

CFA TC

CFA and other consumer organizations urge members of the House and Senate appropriations committees to strengthen the U.S. food safety system and provide the necessary funding to implement the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). As the most important FSMA regulations continue to be finalized, FDA will need to retrain its inspectors, expand international regulatory activities, and build upon existing training and technical assistance programs. Funding cuts could hamper the agency’s efforts to undertake these reforms and cause more Americans to suffer a foodborne illness.
