CFA Supports MD Biometric Identifiers Privacy Act
In written testimony to Maryland legislative committees, Consumer Federation of America urged favorable action on HB 259 and SB 335, the Biometric Identifiers Privacy Act. The legislation would require companies to provide notice and obtain consent before colleting, using or disclosing biometric identifiers, to delete them after a certain time period or at individuals’ request, to safeguard them, and to only share them with the individuals’ consent except under specific circumstances as required by law. It also provides a private right of action, which CFA said was essential to provide redress for individuals and change companies’ practices.
