CFA TC

CFA, National Consumers League and Consumer Action submitted the following letter asking for portion control and portion balance to play a key role in the 2020-2025 U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The letter was endorsed by a coalition of “strange bedfellows” that included trade associations representing frozen foods, beverage, and other food manufacturers. The letter underscores the need for an aggressive policy response to combat the ongoing obesity epidemic, and highlights research showing that interventions to control portion size – such as reducing portion sizes of packaged foods, fast food, and high-calorie beverages – could be a highly cost-effective measure reduce obesity. For that reason, the groups are asking for clearer and stronger emphasis on the importance of portion control in the 2020-2025 edition of the Dietary Guidelines.
