CFA Supports Cloned Food Labeling Act in House

PR

Consumer Federation of America is pleased to support the Cloned Foods Labeling Act (HR.992), introduced by Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro.

Independent opinion research polls have shown that a substantial majority of Americans believe it is immoral to clone animals.  Over sixty percent of Americans say they won’t eat cloned food, even if the FDA says it is safe.  Yet the FDA does not plan to require labeling on milk and meat from cloned animals so that consumers can decide for themselves whether or not to purchase these products.  Representative DeLauro’s bill is a fitting response to the FDA’s insistence that consumers eat these products simply because the Agency says they are safe.  This bill would put consumers in charge of their food dollars.
