CFA joined Consumer Watchdog, EPIC, and Privacy Rights Clearinghouse in a letter supporting AB 446, a law that would prohibit surveillance pricing. Surveillance pricing occurs when businesses adjust the prices of products based on the personal information of consumers, such as their online behavior, location, or purchasing history. This results in consumers being charged different prices by the same business for the same exact product, a practice that not only infringes upon individual privacy, but also leads to unfair and discriminatory pricing.
